Alum is a reliable water clarifier made from aluminum sulfate, specifically designed to address water clarity issues in pools. Here are the features and instructions for using Alum:
Alum Features:
- Acts as a flocculant water clarifier, causing unwanted debris, phosphates, metals, and impurities to settle at the bottom of the pool for easy removal.
- Particularly effective when dealing with water saturated with heavy metals.
Alum Instructions:
1. Adjust the water pH to a range of 7.2 to 7.6 while the pool filter is running.
2. Slowly pour one scoop of Alum into the skimmer while the filter is running.
3. Broadcast the remaining Alum across the surface of the pool.
4. Wait for two hours or until the pressure gauge on the filter increases by 5 PSI.
5. Turn off the filter and allow the dirt and debris to settle at the bottom of the pool. This process may take up to ten to twelve hours.
6. Vacuum the sediment at the bottom of the pool, avoiding direct vacuuming to the filter.
7. Backwash the system until the water runs clear or clean the filter.
8. Turn the circulation system back on.
9. Adjust the water pH to a range of 7.4-7.6 and the total alkalinity to 80-120 ppm, depending on the sanitizer being used.
10. A second application may be required for extremely dirty water.
By following these instructions and using Alum as directed, you can effectively address water clarity issues in your pool and ensure a clean and inviting swimming environment.
